Inkscape Win32 Snapshots

This directory contains Win32 API builds of the current Inkscape source repository. These builds are made by the same people who create the 'official' Win32 builds of Inkscape. The disk space and bandwidth is being generously provided by ACSpike and friends.

Inkscape Win32 builds are listed as InkscapeNNNNN-YYMMDDHHMM.7z. 'NNNNN' is the revision number. These are the complete runnable distributions, with all support files and locales included. To use, just unzip the inkscape directory onto your hard drive and run. Note: we recently changed from using .zip files to 7-zip. Although you will need 7-Zip to unpack these, I think you will agree that the much smaller file sizes are worth the effort. These files are about half the size of the .zips.

Since these are at the very shiny sharp bleeding edge of the current development process, there will be many bugs, inconsistencies, and unfinished parts. We do not consider these to be finished products ourselves, so please don't consider them to be that way either. These are here to provide executable versions of the current development process for testing for those people who wish to participate in open source and to be engaged with the development process. And to participate, we mean help us in debugging the beast.

So, that is the disclaimer. But the good news is that finding a bug in Inkscape can actually be a bit of fun for the tester. If you experience a crash in Inkscape, here is how to report it. For each of the runnable .7z builds in this directory, there is a corresponding InkscapeNNNNN-YYMMDDHHMM-dbg.7z. Unpack the .dbg file from one of these into your inkscape installation directory, and run inkscape with:

gdb inkscape
Then at the gdb prompt: 
(gdb) symbol-file inkscape.dbg
Then run it with: 
(gdb) run
Now perform the steps to reproduce your crash. Once it crashes: 
(gdb) bt
and you will get a "backtrace" listing. Send this to us on the bug tracker, the mail list, or best of all, just visit the online group and chat with us there. Bugs reported that way can be fixed in a few days. Sometimes with a good bug report they are fixed in a few hours. Helping us in this way is a good way to participate and get to know a good online community.
